NINA SANDERS

Apsaalooke (Crow)

“I am a Whistling Water, born and raised on the Crow Reservation, graduate of Arizona State University, intern at the National Museum of the American Indian.”

“I watched my grandmothers and aunt bead, and learned basic techniques from my grandmother.  Later on, I taught myself and learned from other artists.  I’m inspired by the methods and designs of my ancestors and the culture of my people.  I create because it helps me re-center.  I want to make people happy and teach others along the way. My life and career focus is advocating for American Indian families to revitalize culture and initiate healing through immersion, art, and wellness.  My passions include beading moccasins, weaving baskets, and writing stories about my childhood growing up on the banks of the Little Big Horn River.”
