TLINGIT / KAAGWAANTAAN
Jennifer Younger is a Tlingit, Kaagwaantaan artist from Southeast Alaska. She is best known for the fusion of traditional metal carving with contemporary elements. She employs a variety of unique carving techniques along with innovative material finishes.
Jennifer was awarded First Place for metal carving, Carving & Sculpture Division, andBest of Division, Carving & Sculpture Division, at the 2016 Celebration Northwest Coast Juried Art Show in Juneau, Alaska. In February 2016 Jennifer created “Fragmented”, as part of the Create, Memory permanent exhibit of Alaska Native art on the historic Sheldon Jackson Campus, in Sitka, Alaska.
Jennifer draws inspiration from traditional Tlingit formline designs, historic artifacts, spruce root basket weaving patterns, and from the contrast and texture of metals. She strives to continuously push the boundaries of her medium.
