“In 2000, I turned my passion for sewing into a way of life to support my family and children. I’m usually working on several quilts at any one time. The art and creativity of sewing and quilting comes from both my mother, Diane Werk, and grandmother, Sina Bell, so it is in our blood. I want to continue this proud legacy with my daughters Alanna RainingBird, who is also a talented quilter, and my youngest child, ShyLyn, who likes to design star patterns.”
Billy’s work holds a special place in Native tradition, as star quilts are gifted on many momentous occassions, especially to celebrate the birth of newborn babies, and to honor the passing of life at funerals and memorials.
