THOMAS YELLOWTAIL

THOMAS YELLOWTAIL

Apsaalooke (Crow)

“I’ve been creating art since I was young.  Helping my grandmother set up for the her beadwork, making belts, wallets, and horse tack with leather.  I first became interested in art from my teachers at Wyola Elementary School.  They showed me that I could express myself and show my tribal affiliation through art.  In 1984 I attended the Institute of American Indian Arts School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and from there I started working with silver and semi-precious stones to make jewelry.  My grandmother Susie Walking Bear Yellowtail gave me the most inspiration for the geometric designs that I use.  Old Crow photos and going to local powwows and gatherings fuel my creativity. I am proud to be a 2nd generation jeweler in the Yellowtail family.”
