KARIS JACKSON

KARIS JACKSON

Crow/Hidatsa/Arikara

Taught to bead at a young age, Karis has many memories of sitting together daily with her grandmother and beading for hours.  Known for her contemporary style of elaborate shading and beaded portraits of her ancestors, Karis expresses the beauty, connection, and history of her culture in her pieces.

She beads using geometrical designs, shapes, and colors along with a multitude of florals. "I take pride in where I come from and what I do.  I use cut beads, elk hides and various traditional materials and methods to create a wide range of contemporary pieces and regalia.  It’s an intersection of creativity and expression, but also a way of honoring the past."
